The Energy Centre at Thornton offers testing, development and demonstration facilities for companies in the energy sector and is located at the Thornton Science Park of the University of Chester. The main purpose of the Energy Centre is to engage small to medium sized companies as tenants to use the offices, laboratories and testing areas for their product innovation and development through to market; all contributing to implementation of new energy solutions.

An opportunity has arisen at the Energy Centre for a Technician to maintain the efficient and safe day-to-day operation of this facility, test areas and associated equipment and to assist tenants through all stages of their testing programs. The level of involvement will vary from client to client, requiring the ability to provide both technical and hands on manual assistance, including set up and some training on use of the Energy Centre facilities. Being customer interfacing requires a professional approach to providing a quality service, while always ensuring the highest Health and Safety standards are maintained and delivered.

You will work in a team of 3 supporting the Centre Manager and Electrical Engineer to assist companies in the development of new energy technologies. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work with small and medium sized companies with the flexibility to adapt as each project requires enabling a successful outcome in delivering to a wide range of companies in the Energy sector.

You will be educated to ‘A’ level standard; a degree or equivalent level qualification in a relevant engineering discipline is desirable, along with demonstrable experience of working in a similar role within an industrial environment.

You will be able to display a ‘hands on’ approach to undertaking electrical and/or mechanical type projects, and be competent in undertaking risk assessments, and collating/analysing data for client and management reports. You will also be highly organised, demonstrate attention to detail and possess good communication skills.

As part of this role, the Energy Centre Technician will support work that is being undertaken with the Faculty of Science and Engineering.
