Description

The Department of Chemical Engineering is seeking to appoint a Senior Lecturer to teach and to lead aspects of the undergraduate curriculum and to initiate and engage in research in a topic area that has synergy with the current research activities of the Faculty of Science and Engineering.

The Department of Chemical Engineering is recently established within the new Faculty of Science and Engineering and is based at Thornton Science Park, a major research and innovation hub for the North-West of the UK.  In addition to the Faculty, Thornton Science Park also houses a range of small and medium sized technology-based companies, and is home to a number of co-located University initiatives.  The Faculty complements and supports high grade private sector companies undertaking research and development in their specialist science and technology fields.

This post offers an excellent opportunity for an energetic and motivated person to make a valuable contribution to the progress of the Department, drawing on your skills and expertise to contribute to the development of new modules, programmes and research activities.  The Faculty of Science and Engineering maintains a collegiate approach to teaching and research, with several modules taught across a range of courses.  Candidates may therefore be expected to contribute inter-departmental teaching and research.

The Department has diverse research interests including biological engineering, sustainable energy, processing of waste streams and systems approaches for understanding health, aging and nutrition. Our research combines computational modelling, experimental approaches and a powerful analytical platform for probing surface and materials chemistry and nanoscale structures. The successful applicant to the Senior Lecturer post will be have had research success in these themes or other related areas.

The successful candidate must possess a relevant PhD, have experience of teaching in Higher Education, and have a track record of leadership in initiating, funding and pursuing high-impact research activity. An application from a less experienced candidate will still be considered for appointment to a lower grade eg Lecturer rather than Senior Lecturer.
