Description

School of Education International Visiting Research Fellowship Programme (self-funded track)

The School of Education welcomes applications from academics, nationally and internationally, to become Visiting Research Fellows.

The purpose is to enable Visiting Fellows and School of Education staff to develop or extend collaborations in the area of educational leadership or allied fields. Projects might seek to explore initial research connections, to develop concrete research ideas, or to execute specific projects.

Research into educational leadership is currently under the following strands:

•    The development of future leaders through novel methods
•    The role of emotions in leadership
•    Risk and decision making in educational leadership
•    Translational educational practical

Cutting across these themes, we are committed to research approaches that engage with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.

Visiting Research Fellows are for 6 - 12 months, but we would consider applicants for longer.

Honorary titles are voluntary appointments and Title Holders are not entitled to any remuneration in that capacity so applicants will need to ensure that they have sufficient support to be able to commit to the programme.  The University will, however, extend suitable facilities for the Title Holder to undertake commitments agreed with the Dean.

Educational Leadership within the School of Education:

Educational Leadership is an area of research that is growing in interest. Working with partners in Latin America, Greece, Serbia and the UK we explore aspects of leadership through the lens of education. Members of staff regularly publish their research findings internationally and present their research at conferences.

We pride ourselves on our strong links with academics, educational practitioners and policy makers, enabling us to produce research of the highest quality and relevance.

Eligibility:

•    A PhD/EdD (or near completion) or equivalent in education, with an emphasis on educational leadership or applied psychology with a willingness to work on projects related to educational leadership.
•    Experience of working in education or allied settings
•    In exceptional circumstances we may deviate from this criterion if a candidate demonstrates aptitude and potential in a given research area.

Benefits for Fellows:

•    Working with established researchers contributing to existing research projects
•    Planning, developing and instigating their own research projects under the guidance of experienced researchers.
•    Contribute to the dissemination of research, through publications, research seminars and conference attendance.
•    Contribute (where appropriate) to seminars for students on educational leadership courses.

Fellows will have access to:

•    a University of Chester ID card, which enables access to University facilities and resources
•    Learning and Information Services (including libraries) and to computer, printing and copying facilities
•    a University of Chester email address
•    a sponsor (a member of academic staff)

Further information can be found on the Visiting Research Fellow role descriptor below.
