Description

The Division of Communication Screen and Performance is a dynamic and expanding area of the University, comprising of 49 academic staff. The Department is seeking to hire an enthusiastic visiting lecturer with a passion for technical theatre (VL).

The Acting, Dance and Drama courses are delivered at our Creative Campus, Kingsway in Chester and we are seeking the right individual to deliver teaching on lighting, sound and projection in live performance as a part of a larger module with other staff delivering different aspects of the teaching.

Teaching runs from week beginning 28/10/24 until end of week 12/12/24, six 2 hour classes per week across 5 teaching weeks, totalling 60 hours.

Applicants are welcomed from any one of the 3 areas listed above but experience across acting and dance would be desirable. The module is in the first year and students need to know how to:

  • Patch lights and programme the lighting desk with cues and scenes
  • Focus lights to enhance the live performance
  • Set up a PA with a small mixer and set audio levels as appropriate for live performance
  • Connect a laptop to a projector and the PA to run a Qlab for their performance

Applicants will typically be qualified to at least Masters level in a performance/performance technology related subject. Experience of undergraduate teaching and assessment is desirable. Successful applicants must be able to demonstrate ability to use their interest in technical theatre to enthuse students and nurture a welcoming learning environment for some students who would be new to the discipline.
