VISITING LECTURER

FOR ENGLISH AND ACADEMIC SKILLS,
UNIVERSITY STUDY SKILLS, AND
INDEPENDENT PROJECT (CHESTER)

The University of Chester’s Centre for Foundation Studies is seeking to appoint a Visiting Lecturer to teach on the modules English and Academic Skills (EAS), University Study Skills (USS) and Independent Project (IP) on the foundation year portion of our four-year degrees 

The Centre for Foundation Studies teaches over 500 students undertaking the first (foundation) year of their four-year integrated bachelor’s degree prior to progressing into faculties. Our teaching focus is on transition to higher education and there is an expectation that all teaching staff are able to support student engagement and retention and progression strategies. 
 
Applicants will typically be qualified to master’s level. Experience of teaching and assessment is required. Successful applicants must be able to demonstrate ability to use their interest in the subject area to enthuse students in groups of up to 25. The current hourly rate of pay for Visiting Lecturer work is £50.32 per hour.

Modules at the Centre are taught in blocks. Block A includes 12 teaching weeks and runs from September to January. Block B includes 12 teaching weeks and runs from January to April.
 
-    EAS – 4.5 or 6 hours per week (Block A), then 2 or 4 hours per week (Block B)
-    USS – 6 to 12 hours per week (Block A only)
-    IP – 6 to 12 hours per week (Block B only)

The hourly rate includes the use of current teaching and learning materials and the creation and marking of students’ assessments.
