The role of the Independent Assessor during the EPA is to impartially assess whether the Police Apprentice has developed the skills, knowledge and behaviours outlined in the apprenticeship standard and assess whether an apprentice has achieved occupational competency. Responsibilities include:
• Conducting the Occupational Competence Portfolio review and professional discussion, independently assessing the two End Point Assessment parts that each Police Apprentice must progress through to successfully complete their apprenticeship, namely:

• providing detailed feedback to Police Apprentices using appropriate feedback mechanisms and in line with feedback deadlines

• when determining a grade for the professional discussion, considering whether the student has met 13 distinct areas of competency
• determining if the Police Apprentice has passed their End Point Assessment
As the assessment of apprentices is primarily conducted in person there will be need for related travel within the Cheshire area.
Applicants should:

• work in line with the HE regulator’s requirements for assessment and external examination
• be from an APAR registered organisation approved to deliver this EPA
• have had no involvement in the employment, management or training of the Apprentice.
Independent Assessors may be associate or seconded police officer / staff assessors working for an APAR organisation.
Pay is based on the number of apprentices allocated and a fixed per annum fee and a fixed per cohort fee. The per apprentice fee is £369.25, the per annum fee is £215.40, the per cohort fee is £76.93 (all before deductions). Those deemed appointable will be held in a pool of Independent Assessors and will be assigned on both a rota and availability basis, at which point a contract will be issued.

Interviews will be held via MS Teams week beginning 7th October 2024
